Wes Anderson locations in Barcelona

Date:

Cinema is one of our favorite topics when it comes to creating new articles, and here is this special one dedicated to all the Wes Anderson fans out there: Wes Anderson locations in Barcelona (and nearby) to feel like you are inside one of these iconic director’s movies.

Wes Anderson, genuine aesthetics

For those of you who don’t know this director yet, or haven’t seen any of his movies (wait, what?), here is a brief introduction about Wes Anderson.

Wes Anderson was born in 1969 in Houston, Texas. You can tell when you are watching a movie directed by Wes Anderson: thoughtful movies which display a visual show of colors and compositions. Wes Anderson’s particular aesthetic is characterized by symmetry, a clear pastel color palette, quirky character development and a particular art direction.

Out of all his movies, these are some of our favorites:

  • Life Aquatic (2004)
  • The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
  • Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)
  • Isle of Dogs (2018)
  • Moonrise Kingdom (2012)
  • The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)

Parc de l’Espanya Industrial (Barcelona)

This is not a much visited spot in the city. Have you heard about Parc de l’Espanya Industrial before? Located in the Sants neighborhood, this park has a pretty big dragon-shaped slide and a pond, including the symbols of fire, water and earth on the scenario. This is an example of a recovery initiated in Barcelona during the 1980s of the land occupied by industries that disappeared or were moved to other locations. Today, for the cinema lovers, it also is a beautiful Wes Anderson location in Barcelona. Specially for the symmetries used in all structures and the pastel colors of the towers.

Montjuic cable car (Barcelona)

Have you ever spotted those powerful red cable cars floating in the wind? Or even taken a ride in one of them? Seen in the distance, they clearly remind us of the aesthetics of Wes Anderson, both for the color combination and the symmetrical circular structure. Probably the most popular Wes Anderson location in Barcelona.

Llac de Banyoles (Girona)

This lake is a great spot to spend a Summer day (or even a day of any season), as we explained after our visit to Llac de Banyoles. It hides some mysteries from past times which are fun to be discovered while there.

And if you walk around the lake following the path, at some point you will bump into these particular constructions called “Pesqueres de Banyoles” which remind us of the aesthetics of the architecture in the Wes Anderson movies. They were built in the 19th century as simple gangways made out of wood for the fishermen, but they eventually evolved to vacation houses for vacationers or houses for recognized members of the local society of Banyoles.  Doesn’t it remind you of some of the buildings that appear in the particular Wes Anderson scenarios?

Far del Fangar (Delta de l’Ebre, Tarragona)

If you have seen Moonrise Kingdom, this lighthouse might look familiar to you. Can you picture Suzy staring into the infinite through her inseparable binoculars? Such a poetic, powerful and beautiful frame that we really love. Far del Fangar is definitely another great Wes Anderson location near Barcelona.
