Cafè del Centre, founded in 1873
Located in the Eixample neigborhood, Café del Centre was founded in 1873 and opened its doors as a casino. Later, it would transform into a café, and has persisted in this form up to the present day. Currently, it stands as one of the oldest active modernist cafes in Barcelona.
What makes Cafè del Centre special?
Beyond its historical legacy, there are many elements that set this café apart as a charming cafe in Barcelona. Firstly, its atmosphere teleports you to the past. This has been achieved by creating an open space with iconic marble tables with iron legs, reminiscent of decades past. Additionally, the wide mirrors on the walls and the long counter bar illuminated with round lights contribute to creating a truly special ambiance that teleports you to the past.
Antique objects in the cafe
Besides the genuine atmosphere, this charming cafe in Barcelona also boasts objects with more than a century of history. The most eye-catching of all is an antique scale that you’ll find in the middle of the cafe, adorned with garlic vines, cheese on the table, olives… If we take a few steps further, at the back of the café, if you look up, you will see an old radio on the wall. And next to it, on the floor, there is an old record player. Also, one of the most curious relics to observe is part of an ancient cash register, resting on the counter bar.
