Parc de l’Espanya Industrial

Date:

Parc de l’Espanya Industrial (as this place is called) also holds a past. We featured this spot among the Wes Anderson scenarios in Barcelona. The symmetries, the pastel colors and the general view teleports us clearly to one of this director’s movies (maybe to Moonrise Kingdom because of the lighthouses?). Anyway, beyond its particular aesthetics, this historical park also has an interesting story.

A park with a past: it was an old textile factory

It was built in 1985 in the land left by the old textile factory “Espanya Industrial”, which was founded in 1847 and relocated some years later in 1972 to another town. The park was remodeled in 2009.

Fire, water, Earth

Fire, water and Earth have their presence in this park. You just have to spot the diverse elements to see how they are connected:

  • A dragon: a huge slide in the shape of an iron dragon is one of the most visible elements. It is the main playground for the kids having fun in this park.
  • A pond guarded by a special God: Neptune, the God of freshwater and the sea is the main figure in the pond. And next to him, there is also someone special…

  • Venus: a statue of the goddess of love, beauty and pleasure has also a presence in this park. She is sitting on the grass, mirrored in the pond.
  • 9 towers-lighthouses: this is the most powerful element that can be seen from afar.

A recovered industrial area in Barcelona

After the factory relocation, the owners wanted to take advantage of the land to build apartment buildings. But it was the neighborhood movement who prevented it and the space was destined to public equipment. More specifically, to build the park we know today as Parc de l’Espanya Industrial.

Address: Carrer de Muntadas 1 (Sants-Montjuïc district).
