Setcases, a picturesque town in the Pyrenees

Date:

We couldn’t come back from our trip to Camprodon without stopping by one of the most picturesque towns in the Pyrenees: Setcases. But instead of writing a list of things to do in Setcases, we are going to give you this essential tip: just relax and get that slow life vibe of living in one of the most genuine towns in the Pyrenees (okay, a bit touristy lately, but still genuine).

So here are some of the highlights but also historical (and legendary) facts to get to know the lovely town of Setcases from a deeper perspective.

Legend of Setcases: seven houses, for seven brothers

Why is this town called “Setcases”? Legend has it that there was once a family of ranchers, a father and his seven children, who had never climbed a mountain and stopped by the Hospitalet plane for the sheep to graze. When they had been there for two days, it began to snow and the children were amazed that they had never seen those white flakes falling from the sky.

They ran to tell their father, who was blind and couldn’t see the phenomena. The father explained to them that this was snow, that it would cover the grass and the sheep would starve to death. They immediately went down and the father decided that they would stay where there was elderberry. They found the place, it was pleasant and each of the children built their own cabin. So seven cabins were built by the seven brothers. And this is why we call the place today “Setcases” (“Sevenhouses”).

A stroll through the streets of this picturesque town

In our opinion, the top 1 of things to do when in Setcases: just walk, relax and dive into this small town lifestyle. There are a couple of bars and restaurants to stop by (if you visit in fall/winter, some of them light the fireplace. And it can’t get any cozier).

Ca la Núria, la Casa de la Mel (“The Honey House”)

You will bump into this typical store right at the entrance of Setcases. Ca la Núria is the “Honey house”, known for its many varieties of honey. But they also sell the typical “fuets” and a wide variety of typical cold meats “embotit”. Also, they have delicious honey candies! And “carquinyolis” as well:

Vallter 2000, a ski area

For those who love skiing, you might want to know that there is a ski area really close to Setcases: Vallter 2000. And for those who love hiking, there are diverse hiking routes in the area (but as we always say: check out first the weather conditions and the difficulty level).

A beautiful town nearby: Camprodon

When in Setcases, there are some other beautiful towns nearby which we highly recommend to visit. For instance, the small town of Camprodon. And if you prefer to explore towns which are more kind of a village, write down these two: Beget and Castell de la Roca de Pelancà (or just “La Roca).
