There’s a very long list of delicious breakfast places in Barcelona. Today, we want to focus on those that are often frequented by locals or that, for one reason or another, and also those cafeterias have a direct connection to the city’s history and are worth visiting. A list to suit all tastes!
Iconic breakfast places in Barcelona
Granja Viader
A delicious classic. We have mentioned Granja Viader several times, both for being a historic business and for its delicious pastries. They are also known for inventing Cacaolat, an iconic chocolate beverage. While Granja Viader might not be the daily breakfast spot for locals, it certainly is that special breakfast place in Barcelona where locals gather for breakfast on special days, weekends, or while taking a stroll around the Gothic Quarter. Delicious homemade whipped cream and churros!
Quatre Gats
This is a touristy place to have breakfast, but it’s probably worth it. How does it feel to have breakfast in the same place where a young Picasso met with other artists? Quatre Gats was actually a tavern/forum where the most renowned artists gathered. So we’ve included it as an interesting place where you can enjoy breakfast.
Carrer Petritxol
And continuing with Picasso… Another iconic place marked by the painter’s footprint: Petritxol street. Did you know that Picasso lived at number 4 on this street? Furthermore, Petritxol Street is known as the “chocolate street” (with sweet shops, chocolates, art galleries, etc.) where you can enjoy delicious breakfasts at cafeterias like La Pallaresa or Granja Dulcinea, also among the delicious breakfast places in Barcelona.
Cafeterias in local food markets
There is no better place to immerse yourself in the culture than a local food market… And also have breakfast there! You can have breakfast at La Boqueria if you’d like, but if you prefer to experience less touristy food markets, you should visit others like Mercat del Ninot, Mercat de la Barceloneta, Mercat de Galvany, and more. Besides food market stalls, there are little bars where you can easily get a sense of daily life in the city. You can also have breakfast there!
A ‘cool’ place to have breakfast in Barcelona
Located in the Sant Antoni neighborhood, Café Cometa is a really cool place to have breakfast for a simple reason: they’ve got delicious cakes, pastries, and amazing coffee. Like, the coffee is that good! And on top of that, the place is decorated very stylishly, just like you can see in the picture:
A cafeteria in a community center, Can Deu
It’s one of the most beautiful cafés in the city, especially due to its colorful stained glass windows and the atmosphere that is created inside. And the most curious thing is that this café is part of the community center in the neighborhood of Les Corts, Can Deu. A magical place for having breakfast.
