Working hours in Barcelona

Date:

We have been writing a lot about beautiful villages to visit, hidden gems in Barcelona, the most paradise beaches… But okay, let’s focus as well on this topic called… Work! And we thought about writing a useful article in case you are looking for a job in Barcelona or are interested in knowing what is the work schedule in Barcelona and what are the working hours in Barcelona.

Fixed schedule: office jobs

People working in offices in Barcelona have this fixed work schedule: From 9am to 1pm-2pm then take a lunch break of 1 hour or 1 hour and a half and go back to work at around 3am, ending the work day at around 6pm. Things to consider here: some companies offer “flexible working hours” that consist of starting work between 8am-9.30am and leaving at around 5-6.30, as long as you complete the hours of the work day. So if you start earlier, you leave earlier as well.

However, regarding office jobs, remote work has changed the scenario completely during the past years. Because of the effects of the pandemic, most workers started working from home and some companies have included this work modality as an option for those workers who prefer working from home. And that is turning working hours in Barcelona more flexible, regarding office jobs.

Jobs with variable schedule

And besides this fixed schedule regarding the working hours in Barcelona, depending on the work sector, this schedule might be “variable”. And that means that the working day is divided in diverse time groups, and these are the most common:

  • Morning shift: From 6am to 2pm.
  • Afternoon shift: From 2pm to 10pm.
  • Night shift: From 10pm to 6 am.

This variable schedule is usually applied to jobs in the service industry (stores, supermarkets, bakeries) and also in the industrial sector (jobs in factories).
