Barcelona is a city well-known for its warm and sunny weather. But it also rains some days, and that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. Actually there are a lot of things to do in Barcelona, more than you imagine. So if you are wondering what to do in Barcelona when it’s raining keep reading…
We have this well-known Catalan saying: “Per abril, aigues mil”, which means that April is one of the most rainy months of the year. So to be prepared in advance, here we share some of the best plans to know what to do in rainy Barcelona.
1. Fight the homesickness: go to a laser tag
This first option is not only a good plan for a rainy day in Barcelona, since it also can heal you in case of experiencing some homesickness. We went to the one called “Play Point” which is located in the Sant Antoni quarter. It was really fun! So going to a laser tag can be a good plan if you don’t know what to do in Barcelona when it’s raining.
2. Enjoy a good novel at Biblioteca de les Aigües
Book lovers: this is book-reading paradise. We will dedicate soon a special post to this magical place, Biblioteca de les Aigües, because it really deserves it. But for now, we are going to include this spot on the list. Ideal if you are feeling like reading a good novel not at home but in a peaceful and calm space. Here is a video that describes better than our words the atmosphere you can breathe there. A perfect plan when it’s raining in Barcelona.
3.Cinema lovers: explore ancient cinemas
What to do in Barcelona when it rains? It is a perfect day to go to the movies. But instead of going to the typical cinemas in the city, we propose you to enjoy a movie in V.O. in one of the oldest and beautiful cinemas in the city. For example: Cinema Maldà or Cinemes Verdi.
4. Experience a different theatre format: Microteatre
Instead of enjoying one play in the theatre… What about enjoying 3 or 4? This is the essence of the project Microteatre (Bailén Street, 194). It is a space which includes different rooms where diverse plays take place, and they last around 15 minutes each of them. You can enjoy some of these shows, and between plays you can also have a drink since they have a bar at the entrance. We went there a couple of months ago, and we highly recommend it. Specially if you have no plans and are wondering what to do in Barcelona when it’s raining.
5. Hot chocolate to get warm
As you might have read, walking the streets of Gràcia is a really nice plan for the weekend. But what if it is raining outside? No worries, you can keep the plan and enjoy the indoors of this quarter, which are really beautiful as well. There are plenty of lovely coffee shops where you can experience one of the typical things we use to do between lunch and dinner, “merendar”. We recommend you to go have a hot chocolate at La Nena, even though it turns into a pretty noisy place if you go there on a Saturday afternoon. You can also explore the iconic carrer Petritxol, well-know for its pastries, churros and chocolates or Granja Viader.
6. Museums with views
Visiting museums and observe how it is raining outside can be a good plan too. We recommend you the CCCB, which has a lookout that recently has been reopened. Nothing like enjoying culture, having coffee and getting one of the best views of Barcelona when it’s raining.
Nothing (not even the bad weather) is stopping you from having fun in this city. Pick one of these plans to enjoy not only sunny but also rainy Barcelona!
