What if we say that there is a beautiful waterfall near Barcelona, which is actually in one of the most beautiful towns in the country? We are talking about Les Fonts del Llobregat waterfall and the lovely town of Castellar de n’Hug. We recommend you to include this town in your “weekend trips” if you love nature and the peace of the small towns.
A beautiful waterfall near Barcelona: Fonts del Llobregat
If you love waterfalls, this is a beautiful waterfall near Barcelona that you can’t miss: Fonts del Llobregat. It is actually the source of the river Llobregat, one of the most important in the country. The hike to Fonts del Llobregat from Castellar de n’Hug takes just around 10 minutes. A natural visual show worth a visit!
Castellar de n’Hug old town
Besides exploring this beautiful waterfall, walking the streets of this small town called Castellar de n’Hug is also a must-do. Mainly because it feels pretty different than walking the streets of the big cities in the country.
And the location of Castellar de n’Hug couldn’t be more privileged: this small town in Berguedà region is located in one of the most beautiful Natural Parks in Catalonia, called Cadí-Moixeró.
Don’t leave without trying the “1 kg croissants”
Yes, you read it right, 1 kg croissant! Besides the beautiful waterfall near Barcelona that we just wrote about, Castellar de n’Hug is well-known (among other things) for its huge croissants that you will see in bakeries while exploring the old town. How about bringing home this special souvenir? Just an idea ;-)
Traditional small businesses in Castellar de n’Hug
We love to explore these genuine local businesses which are typical to these lovely small towns. It is always like travelling back in time, places where tradition has been preserved and we feel so lucky to be able to get to know a culture from this authentic point of view. A similar feeling that we had while visiting the little shops in Camprodon.
Besides the popular 1kg croissants, you can enjoy some of the best embotit (fuet, llonganissa…). And also, traditional items such as these cute wicker baskets.
Museu del Ciment
Also, another point of interest in Castellar de n’Hug: Museu del Ciment (Cement Museum). The former cement factory called Asland operated from 1904 to 1975. The remains visible today still show the spectacular nature of one of the most unique industrial complexes in the Catalan industrialization, framed in a unique natural environment.
BONUS: Santuari de Montgrony
For those who love hiking, there is a place near Castellar de n’Hug that you might like, the Santuari de Montgrony. A sanctuary surrounded by nature which offers a unique and beautiful landscape.
So besides exploring one of the most beautiful waterfalls near Barcelona, les Fonts del Llobregat, a trip to Castellar de n’Hug will let you discover culture and tradition in a different way. And also, enjoying nature to the fullest.
