Beyond Summer, Autumn is a nice season to spend some days (or even months) in Barcelona. So we made a list of things to do in the fall in Barcelona to take the most of this season. Read on to discover how to enjoy these cozy days in the city.
What’s the weather like during fall in Barcelona?
During this season, weather starts to get a bit chilly, but you can enjoy sunny days still with mild temperatures. Check out how seasons’ temperature changes throughout the year on one of the articles we wrote about this topic: What’s the Barcelona weather like.
When packing: what clothes should you include?
This might sound confusing but here is what you should pack: a mix of late-Summer and early-Winter clothes. Depending on the weather during the days you spend in Barcelona, you might enjoy sunny days and almost-Summer temperatures, but also rainy days and chilly afternoons.
5 things to do in the fall in Barcelona
Buying a cone of chestnuts in a stall on the street
These chestnut stalls are so typical these days during Fall in Barcelona. So here is the first proposal: taking a walk while eating freshly made chestnuts, or eating them while chatting with friends on one of the benches in squares and streets.
Having a cup of hot chocolate in one of the beautiful coffee shops in the city
It is starting to get chilly, and those almost-winter evenings are the perfect moment to get cozy in some pretty (and also historical) coffee shops which are ideal for this plan. Here are some recommendations:
- Granja Viader: a place with History, as it has been running since 1870. Located in the Gothic quarter, it is one of those beautiful and historical places where you can spend some afternoons and get that cozy feeling of Autumn in Barcelona. All along with delicious hot chocolate (and churros, home-made pastry, typical Catalan pastries…).
- La Nena, in Gràcia quarter (try to avoid rush hour when going to this one, since it can get pretty crowded and noisy).
Also, there is a beautiful and historical street in the Gothic quarter called “Carrer Petritxol” which is well-known for its places to enjoy chocolate (in all its forms ;-)). We wrote about the History this street hides and also the shops and nice places you will find there: Iconic Barcelona streets, carrer Petritxol
A walk in Collserola
Nature is close to this city, more than you might think. If you are in need of unplugging and feeling some natural peace, a walk to Collserola probably will do. Specially during this time of the year, to delight your senses with the Autumn colours of this landscape: a palette of yellow, brown, garnet and red.
Shopping bolets and boniatos in local markets
Mushroom season: welcome in! Mushrooms and boniatos get all the attention in local markets during Fall in Barcelona. So here is another plan: go shopping to local markets in Barcelona to try this season’s delicious food.
Preparing “panellets” at home
Panellets are typical Catalan sweets which are prepared specially during October to welcome in La Castanyada (put it in other words: the way we celebrate Halloween in Catalonia). So to get in the mood of this festivity in the most Catalan way, cooking “panellets” is a great plan to do at home during Fall in Barcelona. You will find lots of recipes about how to prepare them.

Fageda d’en Jordà
Leafy ground and dreamy woods, specially this season of the year in La Fageda d’en Jordà. Walking through this place during Autumn is kind of magic.
Going harvest chestnuts at Parc Natural del Montseny
Chestnuts are so typical in Catalonia and Spain during Autumn, and there is also a traditional hike related to this fruit: going harvest chestnuts in one of the most beautiful places near Barcelona, Parc Natural del Montseny. Actually, it is more about a double tradition in the woods: harvesting chestnuts while picking mushrooms!
