What if we say that YES, there is a Statue of Liberty in Barcelona? You might now probably wonder: “Is it located in a square that I haven’t discovered yet? Or, “Is it located in a museum in the city?”. The truth is that this Statue of Liberty is hidden somewhere in the city, but in a place which is easily accessible ;-)
A statue of liberty in Barcelona, located in a public library
The Statue of Liberty in Barcelona is located in a public library in the Gràcia neighborhood: Biblioteca Arús. So it is not located outdoors (and you don’t need to take a ferry to visit it), or measures 46 meters, as the original Statue of Liberty in New York. But it is quite impressive: it measures two meters high and you will find it upstairs in the most ancient library in Barcelona, Biblioteca Arús. This Statue of Liberty in Barcelona has been there for 122 years!
Other Statues of Liberty in Spain
Beyond Barcelona, there are also two more Statues of Liberty in Spain. One is located in Madrid in Panteón de los Hombres Ilustres, and another one in La Rioja, in a town called Cenicero.
Are there other statues of liberties repliques in the world?
The truth is that, although there are more than 100 replicas of the Statue of Liberty distributed over the world, most of them are located in the United States and France. But you can also find some of them in Argentina, Austria, Germany, Italy, Japan, China or Vietnam.
And beyond the Statue of Liberty in Barcelona, you will also find other hidden spots in the city which might teleport you to the United States. For instance, Barcelona also hosts its particular Flatiron building, the Catalan style: Casa Antònia Serra i Mas.
