You don’t need to go too far from the city center to find quiet places to read in Barcelona. Actually, some of these peaceful places are located in the center of the city but somehow hidden from the crowd. Some of them are little oasis in the middle of the city :-)
Biblioteca Dipòsit de les aigües
We dedicated an article to this temple of books: Biblioteca Dipòsit de les Aigües. If you love quiet places to read, which are also beautiful and peaceful buildings, we are pretty sure that you will love this place. It is definitely one of our favorite libraries (if not the favorite) in Barcelona.
Pati de Ciències i Lletres (Universitat de Barcelona)
This spot is not that popular, except for the lucky UB students attending classes in this building. Because not many people know about this little oasis in the city center! This backyard is part of the historical building of the Universitat de Barcelona, which was built between 1863 and 1892/93.
Altaïr Bookstore
If you love traveling and reading, you can almost do both in this bookstore: Altaïr. It is the most famous bookstore in Barcelona specialized in travels, so you will find from the most diverse travel guides to novels and a general vast literature focused on this specific topic. But what makes this bookstore even more special is the fact that, if you go downstairs, you will find a small but charming coffee shop where to enjoy your reads (or books that you just bought, which is something that we really like to do).
Park Güell
Yes, you read it right. You can find the perfect quiet place to read in Barcelona in the most visited monument in the city. Actually Park Güell is a pretty big park which has quiet areas, you just have to find them. For instance, there is a picnic area which is usually not very crowded. Also, if you just walk without a route in mind, you will probably find these quiet places far from the tourist areas.
Jardins del Palau de Pedralbes
One of the most famous gardens in Barcelona (and probably the most stately) also has some quiet corners where you can enjoy some reading time. It won’t be difficult to find a bench to sit and disconnect from the crowded city for a while.
Jardins del Palau Robert
Palau Robert is a museum that hosts many interesting expositions throughout the year. But what many people don’t know is that there is a nice garden in the inside that you can access for free. And since it is home to many plants, flowers and trees, if you sit on a bench to read on a Summer evening, watch out for mosquitoes!
