We love nature, but over all we love the feeling of being connected to it. This is why sometimes we need to leave the city for a while and explore beautiful places nearby: little villages, magic woods or… majestic mountains, like the one we chose to write about in today’s post: Pedraforca hike.
Pedraforca, an emblematic peak
Pedraforca is one of the most emblematic mountains in the country. It is located in the region of Berguedà, between two little villages, Saldes and Gòsol. It has a really particular form due to its two peaks separated by a hill, which reminds us of a “fork”. And this is why it is called Pedraforca, Rock+Fork. The highest of these two peaks is 2.507m high, and the other one is 2.497m.
Located in a beautiful area: Parc del Cadí-Moixeró
Pedraforca is located in a natural park called “Parc Natural del Cadí Moixeró”, one of the biggest green areas in Barcelona. If you love hiking, this area offers many routes to explore by foot, by bike or even on horse (check the map of trails before leaving, specially to know in advance the difficulty level). While exploring the area you will also find medieval areas and traditional rural architecture.
Beautiful villages nearby
If you are not planning (at all) to climb the Pedraforca but visiting the beautiful villages nearby instead, that is a great plan. Walking the old-town streets of these little towns with the Pedraforca in the background… It can get any better.
Saldes
Another beautiful piece of paradise inhabited by 265 people, which is also located at Pedraforca’s feet. This majestic mountain is always in the background while exploring this little village: you can see Pedraforca from anywhere in Saldes. And you can also go back in time while exploring Saldes castle and a Dolmen de Molers, which has centuries of History.
Definitely immersing ourselves into the daily rural life of these little villages is one of our favorite things to do. And if you are keen to explore other beautiful areas which are surrounded by nature, we recommend you also to visit Parc Nacional d’Aiguestortes.
Gòsol
Gòsol has a population that says quite it all: 200 people. This means a really quiet town far away from the city crowd. A really beautiful place when all you need is peace and reconnecting with nature.
The only square in this village, “Plaça Major”, is the main scenario where almost all the small businesses, bars and restaurants are located. Besides, right in the middle of the square you will find a sculpture that quickly will attract your attention: it is a reproduction of one of Picasso’s paintings, “La dona dels pans” (The woman of loaves). Because, here is a curiosity that you need to know before visiting Gòsol: the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso spent a couple of months in this town during the summer of 1906. You can visit Centre de Picasso in Gòsol, where you will find around 300 paintings of one of the most recognized Spanish painters.
