Doing the groceries in a foreign country for the first time is always an experience. Products that we never have heard of, brands with catchy and funny namings… And also, the challenge of finding that same product that you were used to back in your hometown! Spoiler: that might be Mission: impossible :-P. But in today’s post we want to focus on the organic food supermarkets in Barcelona, for those seeking these kinds of products

So here it goes our favorite choices when it comes to local organic grocery shopping in Barcelona:

Local food markets in Barcelona

This is definitely our first option when it comes to organic food supermarkets in Barcelona. Local producers, fresh food and a beautiful atmosphere that tells you a lot about the culture. One of the best parts of doing the groceries in these local markets: you are contributing to the survival of these local businesses. Most of them have been running for many decades, and has built part of the city’s identify. Among them, la Boqueria is probably the most popular, but did you know that there are 39 local food markets in the city?

Fresh products from local producers, a great cultural and gastronomic experience. Organic food in Barcelona from local producers

If you do a little research on the organic food little stores in your neighborhood, we are pretty sure you will find some of them. For instance, in the Gràcia neighborhood there are many of these local stores which sell vegetables, fruits, legumes, etc. directly from local producers. So beyond savoring delicious food, you will be also supporting the small businesses in your neighborhood.

And here is our third option: organic grocery stores in Barcelona which are small chains. If you are looking smaller supermarket chains similar to Whole Food Store or Trader Joe’s, here are some of them that probably will do:

Veritas

First thing you need to know: it is expensive. But all of the products in this store are organic. It won’t be difficult to find any Veritas supermarket in your neighborhood, since there are a bunch of them in the city. Probably the most famous organic food chain in the city (along with high-priced products).

Casa Amatller

But we are not talking about Gaudí’s monument here, which is Casa AmAtller. Instead of a piece of history and architecture, Casa Ametller is a chain of supermarkets with a special focus on local products. This option might be a bit cheaper than Veritas.
