Date:

You probably have heard about them, but where can you try a New York roll in Barcelona? We already have the answer, because we went to visit the iconic place in the city where these recently famous pastries are made… Read on to find out!

But let’s start from the beginning…

What is a New York roll?

A New York roll or croissant suprême is a type of pastry similar to a croissant, kind of like a “round croissant”, and filled with a variety of ingredients and flavors

These rolls are actually made with a dough similar to that of a croissant, but they are creatively stuffed before being rolled and baked. The fillings can vary widely and may include ingredients such as chocolate, custard cream, fruits, jams, cream cheese, bacon, sausages, among others. Also, some of these new york rolls may be topped with glaze or sprinkled with sugar or seeds.

When, where and who created the New york roll?

In 2022, these pastries went viral on social media after one bakery in New York started selling them under the name of “suprêmes”. The bakery is “Lafayette Café & Bakery”, a bakery with Parisian vibes, located on the corner of Lafayette Street and Great Jones Street, in the center of Manhattan.

Where can you find New York rolls in Barcelona?

The most famous place to enjoy a New York roll is located right in front of la Sagrada Familia: Bo&Mie. We went there to try these (very) photogenic pastries, and here is what we found:

At Bo&Mie, they make New York rolls filled with raspberry and pistachio flavor. They are quite large pieces, so one option is to share them between two people. In addition to New York rolls, at Bo&Mie you will find a wide variety of pastries! And after stumbling upon these pictures, are you going to try New York rolls in Barcelona? ;)
