We don’t need to drive too far away from Barcelona to discover little gems with centuries of history. For instance, Castell de Burriac, a medieval castle located in Cabrera de Mar (Maresme) which dates back to the start of the 11th century. Here we share our experience of a day trip from Barcelona to Castell de Burriac, which made us travel back in time.
A castle near Barcelona
We already highlighted Castell de Burriac among our favorite castles near Barcelona. Specifically, Castell de Burriac (or Castell de Sant Vicenç) is a medieval castle located in Cabrera de Mar, near Argentona. It is 400 meters above sea level, and the remains of villages of the Iberian people can be found right below the castle. And it is declared Cultural Asset of National Interest!
When was Castell de Burriac build?
The castle was built on a previous defense tower, from Roman times. The first documentation that shows the existence of the castle dates from the year 1017. They built the homage tower, the warehouses and the chapel between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries.
How to get from Barcelona to Castell de Burriac
By car: C-32 motorway (it takes around 25 minutes to get there from Barcelona). From the center of the village you can walk to “Camí de la Font Picant”, from where we started the hike.
By public transport: Rodalies renfe, train from Barcelona-Sants station to Cabrera de Mar-Vilassar de Mar station. Then take the bus C-16 La Riera (Can Benet), at the stop Baixador de Cabrera de Mar-Vilassar de Mar. It will take you to the center of the village of Cabrera de Mar. Walk to the starting point, Camí de la Font Picant.
