Flatiron in New York: one of the most iconic buildings

One of the most popular buildings in New York city, located on 175 Fifth avenue in Manhattan. It was popularly called “Flatiron” because of its similarity to an iron. Today it is one of the most iconic buildings in New York (and even in the world). But did you know that the Flatiron has its soulmate in Barcelona? Actually there is a historic building which has some similarities with the popular skyscraper: Casa Antònia Serra i Mas.

Flatiron in Barcelona: Casa Antònia Serra i Mas

Located in the Poblenou neighborhood (102 Pere IV street), doesn’t this beautiful building remind you a bit of the iconic skyscraper of The Big Apple? Casa Antònia Serra i Mas was built in 1926 by architect Ramon Puig i Gairalt, following the aesthetics of the artistic movement called “Noucentisme”

In terms of cultural and artistic movements, Poblenou has been offering a lot of proposals these past times (cultural festivals, markets featuring local artists, art exhibitions, etc.). And actually in some of these events, buildings and spaces play a leading role. For instance, there is a cool event called “Llum Barcelona” consisting of the projection of a game of lights on some of the most emblematic buildings in the area. Including Casa Antònia Serra i Mas, of course.

Also, if you love exploring hidden gems in Barcelona in terms of buildings, you can’t miss the most beautiful train station in Barcelona (our version of the Grand Central Terminal). Here is an article to explore all details before visiting: Estació de França.
