Even though this street has more than 500 years of history, as of today nobody knows with certainty the origin of the name “Petritxol”. There are some hypothesis though… One of the most accepted is that Petritxol was the name of the man who lived in a house located in the middle of this street. And beyond this naming story, we want to share how “Carrer d’en Petritxol” keeps somehow the past alive in so many ways.

1. Pablo Picasso exposed his work for the first time. It was hosted by Sala Parés, which is still located in number 5 of this emblematic street.

2. It was the first pedestrian street in the city: in 1959 sidewalks were removed and vehicle access was forbidden.

3. Àngel Guimerà, a recognized Catalan poet, lived in this street. The number 4 was home for this artist.

Carrer Petritxol today
