Are there carousels in Barcelona? Where are they located? For how long have they been in the city? If you are running out of plans for your children, here is this old-school idea: riding one of the horses of the mythic carousels!
The oldest carousel in Barcelona: “Ingenio”
The carousel placed in Alfons el Sabi square (Baix Guinardó) square is the only one currently running. Sadly, all carousels that were placed on the street have ended up disappearing due to economic reasons. It is called “Ingenio” and it has been running for almost a century now, in a journey that has included the Horta neighborhood, then in Joanic and finally in Alfons el savi square, where it is currently located.
After the famous “Carrusel Català” (located in Maremagnum) was closed in 2005, this one is the only permanent carousel which has managed to survive. And hopefully will keep doing so, bringing joy to the new kids generation on a playground which has a century of history. And in this modern and digitized world, we love seeing how the “analog” is still preserved. Like the “Ingenio” carousel of the Alfons el savi square.
The most famous carousel in Barcelona: Tibidabo
Also, another of the carousels in Barcelona is located in the famous amusement park in the city: Tibidabo. So this is probably the most famous carousel in the city, worth spending a day visiting and enjoying the many attractions of this theme park. It is not only the most famous, but also the most impressive.
The Christmas carousel in Barcelona: Port Vell Christmas amusement park
You will find this carousel only during Christmas, included in a little but pretty amusement park in Port Vell. The combination of the Christmas lights along with the sea in the background, turn this carousel in Barcelona into one of the best Christmas postcards. Can you spot the carousel in the picture below?
Have you visited one of these carousels in Barcelona? Maybe all of them? Is there a carousel that we missed on the list? Let us know :-)
