About the botanical garden in Barcelona

Jardí Botànic de Barcelona was inaugurated in 1999. This place was created with the aim of preserving and publicize collections of Mediterranean plants from around the world. The conservation and documentation of the natural heritage in Catalonia is among their goals as well, spreading the botanical and naturalist culture and fostering the knowledge and respect towards nature.

What will you find in Barcelona Botanical Garden?

Jardí Botànic de Barcelona is located in Parc de Montjuïc, so it is a great family plan for the weekend, since you get to enjoy beautiful views from the city while enjoying a nice hike. Once you arrive to the Barcelona Botanical Garden you will be ready to enjoy a ride through vegetation from the five regions in the world under the Mediterranean weather. This botanical garden offers different vegetation depending on the season, so if you visit Jardì Botànic de Barcelona during Winter you will probably find a different plant scenario if you come back, let’s say, during Summer. You will find plants and vegetation from the following areas:

  • Southern Australia
  • South Africa
  • Chile
  • California
  • Mediterranean basin: Canary Islands, Eastern Mediterranean, Western Mediterranean, North Africa.
  • Canary Islands

Views from the botanical garden in Barcelona

You will get beautiful views of from this botanical garden in Barcelona which include:

  • Anilla Olímpica de Montjuic: an emblematic symbol of the sport facilities which were created specially for the Olympics celebration in 1992.
  • Delta del Llobregat: a little lake formed by the Llobregat river when arriving to the Mediterranean sea.
  • Collserola mountain range: the most famous mountain in Barcelona.
  • Garraf massif: a beautiful mountain range which also has a natural park for hikers to discover.

  • Castell de Montjuïc (which you can access also by cable car). 
  • Anella Olímpica area (specially if you are an Olympics fan).
  • Museums in the area: Museum of National Art of Catalonia (MNAC), Fundació Miró, Archaeological Museum.
  • Font Màgica de Montjuïc (specially beautiful at night, with its magic light show).

  • February and March: Monday-Sunday, from 10am to 6pm.
  • Abril, May, September and October: Monday-Sunday, from 10am to 7pm.
  • From June to August: Monday-Sunday, from 10am to 8pm.

How to arrive?

Metro: Plaça Espanya stop (L3 Green line). From there you can take the bus 150 and get off at the stop Avinguda Estadi Olímpic. A 5-10 minutes walk and you will arrive finally to the Barcelona Botanical Garden.

Also you can walk from Plaça Espanya to the botanical garden. It might be a nice walk to discover the area, and it will take just around 20-25 minutes to get there.
