There is a beautiful place near Barcelona that seems to go unnoticed: Blanes botanical garden, Marimurtra. And here is the best part: you don’t need to drive too far to get to such a special place, since it takes just 1 hour-drive to get from Barcelona to the Blanes botanical garden “Marimurtra”.
A botanical garden near Barcelona
There are two botanical gardens in Catalonia: The Barcelona botanical garden, which you probably know, but also the Blanes botanical garden which is less known. We visited the second one recently, and it was delightful. Beyond nature and the many species we discovered, we also enjoyed amazing views to the Mediterranean sea while exploring the place.
This botanical garden has almost a century of history and it is classified as a Cultural Asset of National Interest. Carl Faust, a German businessman established in Barcelona since 1897, and passionate about natural sciences, was the creator of this botanical garden. It belongs today to the Carl Fast Foundation.
4 planted hectares, more than 4.000 species
These are some of the flowers that you will meet along the way… (and a little friend as well!)
Marimurtra views to the sea
Besides its many species and visual display, Marimurtra has something else that makes it a unique place: its location by the sea. Here are a couple of pics that we took from a beautiful balcony with views to the Mediterranean sea:
