EU requirements for dogs entry into Spain

  • You must carry a valid EU pet passport.
  • Your dog must have a microchip or a tattoo (in case this was done before 03/07/2011) and is still legible.
  • Rabies vaccine: your dog has to be at least 12 weeks old when receiving its first rabies vaccine.
  • The entry must be at least 21 days later after its first rabies vaccination.

Moving around Barcelona with your dog

Dogs always need to keep the leash on in public spaces (except when they are in designated dogs off-leash areas). But what are the rules in specific places? Can we definitely consider Barcelona as one of those pet-friendly cities? Here we share the info you need to know to answer yourself.

What about using public transport to move around the city with your dog? Depending on which one you choose, you should take this in mind.

Subway. If you are considering taking the subway, these are the main rules:

  • They have access from Monday to Friday, from September 11 until June 24 all day except rush hours from 7am to 9.30 am and 5pm to 7pm.
  • On weekends, holidays and during Summer they can access all day with no limitations.
  • They must carry a muzzle and a non-extensible leash, and stay in a distance shorter than 50m from their owner

Bus. Rules are different if you decide to take the bus, since dogs must be carried in a kennel.

Apartments: is Barcelona dog friendly in terms of housing?
