When summer comes to an end, you might feel a bit down. But here is something you need to know: Fall season in Barcelona (and nearby) can be as awesome as Summer. And to be honest, we easily get along pretty well with that Autumn vibe when changing seasons. Trips to beautiful towns during Autumn is something that we really enjoy, so here we share a list of our favorite Autumn trips from Barcelona:
La Fageda d’en Jordà
A classic, specially during Autumn. Why? Because this beech scenery during this time of the year is simply stunning, and walking through these woods just feels like being inside a fairy tale. Also, you can visit other areas of interest nearby, specially if you love volcanoes, because this is the most popular volcanic area in Catalonia. We highly recommend the hikes to the Croscat and Santa Margarida volcanoes. La Garrotxa (in which la Fageda d’en Jordà is included) is one of our favorite hiking areas in the country, specially during this season.
Parc Natural del Montseny
Parc Natural del Montseny is a great destination anytime of year if you need some nature connection, since it is pretty close to the city. But this natural park is specially beautiful during Autumn. The color palette of the woods in this season, the fallen leaves on the ground, the combination of cold with the shy sunrays… Also, there are some paths with chestnuts trees, which means ideal routes to pick up some chestnuts to roast al home.
Rupit and the woods nearby
Rupit is a wonderful town: streets and houses made out of stone, a beautiful suspension bridge, places where to enjoy delicious traditional food… And specially during Autumn, Rupit is a nice destination for an Autumn day trip from Barcelona, a place where the notion of time feels pretty different compared to the city. Also, you can explore the woods nearby and visit other beautiful towns which also have the special beauty of these mountain towns, for instance, Tavertet.
Viladrau
In terms of food, Autumn season in Catalonia means… chestnuts and sweet potatoes (yummy!). When it starts to get a bit chilly and days are getting shorter, you will start to see chestnuts and sweet potatoes being roasted on the street. Castanyada is already here! And Viladrau is one of the best towns with woods where you can pick some chestnuts to roast at home.
They also organise the event “Fira de la Castanya” (in which guess who is taking the main stage), and there are also special hiking routes with many chestnut trees along the trail. And there is even one famous chestnut tree which happens to have 9 branches, “Castanyer de les 9 branques”. Do you need more reasons to visit this town this time of the year? Viladrau is definitely one of the best Autumn day trips from Barcelona.
Montserrat
You probably know this iconic spot. But have you ever visited Montserrat during Autumn? In this season this mountain looks even more magic. The many stories that this place hides look even more interesting under the atmosphere of the Autumn weather.
If you have never been there, you can read the article we wrote Day trip from Barcelona to Montserrat to plan your trip. And if you want to know a bit about this magic place before arriving, we suggest you to read some of the stories Montserrat mountain, land of stories and legends.
And you know what the best part is? That you can also take the most of the Autumn season in Barcelona without leaving the city: Things to do during Autumn in Barcelona Because we also love that Autumn city vibe.
