It doesn’t matter if it’s summer or winter… la Barceloneta looks always beautiful! And today’s post it is basically a list of things to do in la Barceloneta to inspire you, since it is a nice area to explore if you are spending some days in the city.
It is the sailors’ district in the city, full of magic and vitamin sea for those sea lovers. If you are looking a beautiful Barcelona beach, this is won’t probably be the place (we recommend you to drive to la Costa Brava, we will write a post soon about the best Catalan beaches near Barcelona). For now, we will share these 10 things to do in La Barceloneta:
1. Walk through la Barceloneta iconic narrow streets
What to see in Barceloneta? I wanted to show her this neighborhood located in the Ciutat Vella district, so the first thing on the list of things to do in la Barceloneta was clear: walk through the iconic narrow streets of this neighborhood.
2. Visit the Estació de França Station
If you are wondering what to see in Barceloneta, this is a beautiful spot you should visit since it hides History about Barcelona. You will get to know deeper the city and also will be able to explore a beautiful and historic building. If you want to know more about this beautiful station, don’t miss the post we wrote a couple of months ago Places to visit in Barcelona: Estació de França.
3. Port cable car ride
You will probable see those cable cars from afar. If you would like to enjoy a ride and enjoy some beautiful Barcelona views, this is a fun thing to do. You can take this cable car from La Barceloneta beach and enjoy the views from Mirador de Miramar at the end of the ride.
4. Practice paddle-surf
Among the things to do in la Barceloneta, this is one of the most fun! La Barceloneta is a great place to practice a wide variety of sports like running, roller skating or surfing. What about trying to get on top of a paddle-surf board? One of the best ways to explore the Mediterranean sea.
5. Eat tapas or paella
Previously to our long walk, we had lunch in one of the restaurants close to the beach. Paella was simply… delicious! Vickie had tried paella before, and it is actually one of her favorite Spanish dishes. But this time she had the chance to discover one of the most typical Catalan desserts: crema catalana. She just loved it! So this is also among the things to do in la Barceloneta.
Recommended tapas & paella bars:
- La Leo, Sant Carles 34.
- Jai-ca, Ginebra 13.
- La Bombeta, Carrera de la Maquinista 3.
6. Eat ice-cream
After a perfect lunch, we were ready to head back to the sea. But first: ice-cream! You can end up eating your delicious ice-cream sitting on the sand with the Mediterranean see on the background. One of the things to do in la Barceloneta, specially in Summer.
7. Sit on the sand and chat
As simple as it sounds. With the sea as a background and feeling the sea breeze on your skin. Sounds like a plan, uh? These are the Barcelona beaches in la Barceloneta area:
- Barceloneta
- Somorrostro
- Sant Sebastià
- Sant Miquel
8. Enjoy a relaxed walk near the sea
Time to enjoy a nice walk by the Mediterranean Sea. Children building sand castles, friends chatting by the sea, boys playing volleyball, “sand artists” building awesome sculptures… That is what you will find there, but we must say that if you visit this area on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon you will probably find this place pretty crowded.
9. Have a drink at Eclipse Bar to get the best views
One of the best ways to end up this day tour around la Barceloneta: getting the perfect picture from the heights. You can have a drink at Eclipse Bar located on the 26th floor of the Hotel W iconic building.
Whether you are visiting Barcelona for a couple of weeks or just for a few days, discovering this area which is always full of energy it is definitely a great plan.
