A convent dating back to the XIV century
The Convent de Sant Agustí is one of the most important religious institutions in medieval and modern Barcelona. It was built in the early 14th century with the arrival of the Augustinian religious order in Barcelona.
A religious building until 1715
It was a religious building until 1715 when Felip V ordered the demolition of part of the convent’s dependencies for the construction of the Ciutadella. This forced the Augustinians to relocate to the Raval neighborhood. In this context, with the War of the Spanish Succession and its consequences, there was a turning point in the history of the building.
From a religious to a military building
The Convent de Sant Agustí took on the role of a military station, becoming the Royal Military Academy of Mathematics from 1720 to 1803. The military use of the convent continued until 1980.
From a convent to a community center
In the 1990s, a process of recovering the historic building began. The rehabilitation of the building started to transform it into a community center, which has become one of the most notable civic centers in the district of Ciutat Vella.
