Rupit is a medieval town which dates back to the X century and has been chosen among the Best Tourism Villages in the world in 2022, an award given by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). What to see in Rupit

A suspension bridge

It is the first stop: a suspension bridge upon the river which leads to the center of the village, and from which you will get a beautiful view. When you think of Rupit, probably the image of this suspensión bridge with the stone buildings in the background is what comes to your mind first. That is why this suspension bridge is so iconic, and crossing it becomes a little adventure for both adults and children.

Plaça Major, the nerve center of the village

It is the nerve center of the village: surrounded by the church, the city council and other historical buildings, Plaça Major is the main square of the village and the perfect spot where to sit on the terrace of one of the bars while chatting and soaking the sun.

Església de Sant Miquel

Before reaching the main square, the church of the village welcomes the visitors. It is the Església de Sant Miquel, a baroque church which dates back from the XIII-XIV centuries. You can also access the bell tower of the church and enjoy beautiful views of the village from the heights.

Streets of Rupit

Instead of following a map to avoid missing any of the iconic spots, sometimes we prefer to just walk and be surprised by the buildings and unexpected spots that we find along the way. There is one iconic street that you can’t miss though: Carrer del fossar.

We love bakeries made in these small towns and villages which still have managed to preserve the traditional way of making bread, cakes, pastries… So we never leave any of these villages without trying some croissants, muffins or even carquinyolis! As it was in this case when visiting Rupit, bringing home a bag of these traditional Catalan cookies as a souvenir.

Castell de Rupit

Dated back in the X century, it is said to be the origin of the village of Rupit. It is surrounded by the oldest houses in the village, and it can be seen from afar. Remarkable buildings: Cal Notari, Ca l’Apotecari, la Ferreria i Cal Sallent

Now turned to historical and touristic spots, Cal Notari, Ca l’Apotecari, la Ferreria i Cal Sallent were essential places in the daily life of the village, a long time ago. Ca l’Apotecari (now Cal Mestre). These historical buildings are a reflection of the old trades: the pharmacist, el They all reflect the ancient  was the pharmacist, the blacksmith, the notary… Locations which are also indispensable to get to know the village in depth.

Salt de Sallent

It is the longest waterfall in Catalonia. If you want to hike and enjoy the views to Salt de Sallent, there is a trail which starts from the center of Rupit and leads to the waterfall (as we always said, check the weather conditions first, the difficulty level and make sure you are correctly equipped).
