One of the most beautiful towns in the Pyrenees: Camprodon

Date:

Camprodon is one of the most beautiful towns in the Pyrenees for many reasons (that you will find out through the article, after our weekend in Camprodon). Tradition and culture have been preserved in so many ways: traditional homemade food, Catalan typical products, small businesses which have centuries of history and you are somehow teleported when you get inside… All these things that make Camprodon so special is what we are going to write about in the following lines.

If you are planning to spend a couple of days in this lovely town, read on to discover the local must-do things. The best part for those who don’t have private transportation: you can easily get there from Barcelona by bus.

A book for a weekend in Camprodon: When I sing the mountain dances

So we have this bookworm ritual before a trip of reading some novels based on the city/town we are planning to visit. A different way to get to know the place before getting there, so you can have a picture of it before landing. Also, we sometimes read the novel while on the way there (plane/bus/train/car). So if you have this nerdy habit as well, let us share this book recommendation: Canto jo i la muntanya balla

We wrote about this novel long ago, which is written by the young Catalan writer Irene Solà. It has been recognized with some of the most important awards in the country and has been translated to 17 languages including Spanish (Canto yo y la montaña baila) and English (When I sing the mountain dances). Why do we specially recommend it? Because it is based in Camprodon and it offers a net picture of the traditional lifestyle in the area going through different generations. After reading the book… Ready to start exploring one of the most beautiful towns in the Pyrenees?

First stop in Camprodon: Pont Nou

Probably the most iconic, and the one that offers the perfect postcard from Camprodon: Pont Nou, the famous bridge in Camprodon. Besides taking some pictures from afar, you can walk through it and have a different (and beautiful) perspective of the town with the river at your feet. Isn’t it one of the most beautiful towns in the Pyrennes? :-)

One of the most beautiful towns in the Pyrenees has some of the most beautiful shops

Carrer València is one of the main streets in Camprodon, where all the local shops are. These are mainly traditional shops with many centuries of history. Mainly bakeries, butchers and mostly specialist butchers (you can see the “fuets” hanging through the window from the outside).

Take a look at the variety of local Catalan products

And get some to enjoy at home after a weekend in Camprodon! Besides embotit (fuet, llonganissa, etc.) you will also find other typical Catalan food: honey, mushrooms in Autumn, traditional sweets… And also, the Catalan cookies from Camprodon, Birba cookies. On some of the packages of these cookies, you will easily recognize the Camprodon bridge drawn on it. You will find them in almost every shop in Camprodon. Definitely one of the most iconic products.

A nice walk: Passeig de Maristany

This is one of the most beautiful spots in Camprodon, specially during Autumn or Spring. A pretty avenue with these majestic trees to the sides and with beautiful houses. We took a walk when most of the leaves had already fallen, and it was a really nice walk.

In need of some fresh air? Vallter 2000 ski area

If you love mountains and skiing, you will be glad to know that there is a ski area near Camprodon which is called Vallter 2000. And even if you are not into skiing, the landscape is just worth it. And here is proof:

Weekend in Camprodon: How to get there?

As we pointed out in the beginning of the article, you don’t need a private car to get to Camprodon. You can directly get to the town from Barcelona, by bus, and it takes around 2 hours to arrive there. TEISA is the name of the bus company that has many direct routes from Barcelona to some of the most beautiful towns in the Pyrenees and la Garrotxa area.
